# Consul Keygen

Command: `consul keygen`

The `consul keygen` command generates an encryption key that can be used for
[Consul agent traffic encryption](/docs/agent/encryption.html).
The keygen command uses a cryptographically
strong pseudo-random number generator to generate the key.
